Free Bill Split Calculator: Even or By Income
Splitting rent and bills with a roommate or partner? Enter the shared monthly bills and each person's take-home pay to compare an even 50/50 split with a split based on income.
It runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. The numbers filled in below are a made-up example; change them to yours.
How the math works
- 50/50: each person pays total shared bills ÷ 2.
- By income: Person A's share = A's income ÷ (A's income + B's income). Each person pays their share × total bills, so you both put in the same % of what you earn.
- Roommates often split 50/50 (or by room size); couples often split by income. Neither is "right"; pick what you both agree is fair and write it down.
Example (made up): $1,600 rent + $180 utilities + $70 internet + $30 streaming = $1,880 a month. 50/50 is $940 each. With take-home pay of $4,000 and $2,500, the by-income split is about $1,156.92 and $723.08, or about 28.9% of each person's pay.
