Free Net Worth Calculator: Assets Minus Debts

Net worth is what you own minus what you owe. Type in your account balances and what your big things would sell for, then your debt balances, and see your net worth and how it changed since the last time you checked.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. The numbers filled in below are a made-up example; change them to yours. Leave a row blank to skip it.

How the math works

Example (made up): $1,200 checking + $3,500 savings + $18,000 retirement + a car that would sell for $9,000 is $31,700 in assets. A $6,500 car loan + $14,000 student loans + $1,800 on credit cards is $22,300 in debts. Net worth is $9,400, debts equal about 70.3% of assets, and if it was $8,600 last time, it went up $800.

Use what things would actually sell for, not what you paid. Retirement balances are before any taxes or penalties for taking money out early. Checking once a month or once a quarter on the same day makes the trend easier to read than any one number. It's an estimate for planning, not financial advice.

Track it month by month

The Net Worth Tracker ($5) is a spreadsheet where you list up to 30 accounts as assets or debts, type each balance once a month, and see net worth, the monthly change, a line chart over the year and progress toward a goal. You type the balances in yourself; it doesn't connect to your bank. Works in Excel and Google Sheets.

This template is also in the Complete Household Money Bundle (what's inside): all 13 home money spreadsheets for $29 (about $69 if bought one by one).

We make this template, so take that into account. The calculator above is free to use either way.
