Frequently asked questions

How do you split travel costs fairly?

Split shared things everyone uses equally, like gas for one car, and split lodging by nights if people stay different lengths. Agree on the method before the trip so no one is surprised.

Should lodging be split by nights or by person?

By nights is fairer when stays differ: someone staying 2 nights of a 4-night rental pays less than someone staying all 4. If everyone stays the whole time, both give the same answer.

What if one person drove and others flew?

Only add costs that are actually shared. Personal flights usually stay with each person; gas and tolls for a shared car can be split among the riders. To split a cost among just some people, run it separately with only those travelers.

How does it decide who pays whom?

It works out each person's balance and then matches the biggest amounts owed with the biggest amounts due first. That's usually the fewest payments, though not always.

Is my trip data saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere. Reloading the page clears it.
