Biweekly Budget Template 2027: Pay Dates and Bills
By Cedar & Ledger
If you're paid every other week, a monthly budget never quite fits. Some months you get two checks, some get three, and the rent doesn't care which. A biweekly budget plans each paycheck on its own: list the pay date, list the bills due before the next check, and give every dollar a job.
Step 1: Write down every 2027 pay date
Biweekly means 26 or 27 paychecks a year, depending on your first payday. Two common Friday schedules in 2027:
| First Friday payday | Paychecks in 2027 | Months with 3 paychecks |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 1, 2027 | 27 | January, July, December |
| Jan 8, 2027 | 26 | April, October |
Your schedule may differ, so count from your own first 2027 pay stub. The key point: in a 26-check year, 10 months have 2 checks and 2 months have 3.
Step 2: Give each bill to a paycheck
For each paycheck, list the bills due before the next payday, not in the calendar month. A rent payment due on the 1st usually belongs to the last check of the previous month.
A simple template row looks like this:
| Pay date | Take-home | Bills due before next check | Savings | Spending left |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri Jan 8 | $1,600 | Rent $1,100, phone $45 | $100 | $355 |
| Fri Jan 22 | $1,600 | Car $260, power $90, internet $60 | $150 | $1,040 |
Example numbers only. Check that each row adds up: take-home minus bills minus savings equals what's left.
Step 3: Fix the short check
Most people have one check that always runs thin, usually the one that covers rent. Options:
- Move a due date. Many lenders and utilities will shift a due date if you ask.
- Save a little from the lighter check to cover the heavy one.
- Split big bills (rent, car) between two checks into a holding account.
Step 4: Plan the third paycheck now
Decide before it arrives. A common split: part to the emergency fund, part to a debt or a sinking fund, and a small treat. Our guide to the three-paycheck month budget goes deeper.
Common questions
Biweekly vs. twice a month? Biweekly is every 14 days (26–27 checks). Twice a month (semimonthly) is 24 checks on set dates like the 15th and the last day. See budgeting when you're paid twice a month.
Paper or spreadsheet? Either works. A spreadsheet just does the subtraction for you.
If you'd rather not build it yourself: the 2027 Paycheck Calendar & Bill Planner ($7, details, Excel and Google Sheets) lists every 2027 payday for weekly, biweekly, twice-a-month or monthly pay, shows which bills each check covers before the next one, and flags the extra-paycheck months. A pen and paper version of the table above works fine too.
