Free Small Business Profit and Loss Calculator

A profit and loss statement (P&L) answers one question: after everything it cost, did the business make money? Enter your numbers for a month, a quarter or a year below to see gross profit, net profit and both margins.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. The numbers filled in below are a made-up example; change them to yours.

How the math works

Example (made up): $4,000 in sales plus $200 other income minus $100 in refunds is $4,100 of revenue. Take off $900 cost of goods for $3,200 gross profit (78.0%). After $640 of operating expenses, net profit is $2,560 (62.4%), a pace of $30,720 a year.

Net profit here is before income and self-employment tax. This is general information, not tax or accounting advice.

The Small Business Bookkeeping Spreadsheet ($12) is for freelancers, side hustles and small service businesses: log each sale or expense once and your profit and loss, dashboard and deductible-expense summary fill in. Room for 1,500 entries, Excel and Google Sheets. Record-keeping only, not tax advice.

This template is also in the Self-Employed & Small Business Bundle (what's inside): all 9 business tools for $29 (about $80 if bought one by one).

We make this template, so take that into account. The calculator above is free to use either way.
